The HMRC has updated their guidance for working through an umbrella company, on their website today.
The guidance, originally posted in April of 2021, has been without an update for just under a year.
Today’s additions explain how umbrella workers are engaged, provide advice for workers to understand their pay and employment rights when working through an umbrella and simplify how workers can check their their tax and National Insurance is correct.
The new sections have been added to the guidance, after another company was found to be breaking tax law, ending up on the HMRC’s ‘List of named tax avoidance schemes, promoters, enablers and suppliers’ on November 3rd.
The list now consists of 22 businesses who have been alleged by HMRC to be committing tax related offences.
