When I put pen to paper after the T & S rules changes, Caunce O’Hara felt that those operating within the umbrella and PSC sectors know that the changes that have taken place of late will again come under the microscope of government. With all that is put before you, flexible insurance will be key.
Almost six months on from that article to say that there is “Much ado about nothing” is far from the truth. The sector faces new challenges regarding public sector freelancers and the market has seen some noticeable changes.
Whereas historically the reliance on the traditional occupations of IT and Engineering have seen a dip in both the umbrella and PSC worlds, there has been a noticeable upturn in Finance and Accountancy disciplined freelancers. At the same time the construction sector has been in the ascendancy creating fresh challenges for all service providers including their insurers.
The search for new freelance clients by those offering payroll, umbrella and PSC services has branched into new sectors and the need for increasingly flexible insurance policies has developed. We have pioneered in one particular area by offering “ Plant Operators Negligence Insurance “.
The next six months will no doubt create new changes for us all and our plan is to help our clients plan for the unexpected, feel protected and thrive.
